July 29, 2020 revisions

This update performed the following:

  • Change the English names of families to those used by SACC.
  • Change the English name of American comb-duck to Comb duck.
  • Revise the sequence of species in genera Euphonia and Chlorophonia in Finches.
  • Revise the genus of Blue-and-yellow tanager.
  • Revise references, counts, and text to reflect these changes.

December 14, 2020 revision

This revision performed the following per the SACC:

  • Finalize the split of Penelope bridgesi from P. obscura by assigning an English name (Guans).
  • Assign the former Amazilia chionogaster to a new genus (Hummingbirds).
  • Merge southern caracara into crested caracara (Falcons).
  • Add Andean ibis and white-throated kingbird to the list.
  • Revise references, counts, and text to reflect the above.

January 19, 2021 revision

This revision performed the following per the SACC:

  • Delete the no-longer-applicable note from Ceara woodcreeper in Ovenbirds.
  • Revise the sequence of species and seven genera in Tyrant flycatchers.
  • Replace spotted nightingale-thrush with speckled nightingale-thrush in Thrushes.
  • Split moss-backed sparrow from saffron-billed sparrow.
  • Revise the common name of Idiopsar speculifera in Tanagers.

The following revisions are made to reflect the May 23, 2021 update by the South American Classification Committee of the American Ornithological Society.

  • Revise the English name of Forpus xanthopterygius (New World parrots).
  • Revise the English name of Idiopsar brachyurus (tanagers).

August 2021 revision

The following revisions are made to reflect the August 24, 2021 update by the South American Classification Committee of the American Ornithological Society.

  • Revise the English name of Gallinago paraguaiae.
  • Add Magellanic snipe Gallinago magellanica.
  • Delete ocellated piculet and add white-wedged piculet Picumnus albosquamatus.
  • Revise the genus and position of caatinga antwren.
  • Revise the genus and position of silvery-cheeked antshrike.
  • Revise the English name of Herpsilochmus rufimarginatus.
  • Revise the English names of Euscarthmus flycatchers.
  • Replace red-eyed vireo with chivi vireo Vireo chivi.
  • Revise the English name of Diuca diuca.
  • Delete yellow-scarfed tanager and add magpie tanager Cissopis leverianus.
  • Revise text, counts, and references accordingly.
