Focus?

I'm not sure what this page is really about. A "list of Russian opera composers" implies a list of composers of Russian nationality or of composers who wrote works with Russian-language libretti. It turns out this is more like a mixture of that plus a list of operas performed in Russia, regardless of whether their composers were Russian or even if the works were premiered in Russia. Odd. --Folantin (talk) 11:36, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe the time has come to clean this up? Perhaps by separating the Russian works from non-Russian? --Kleinzach 00:03, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It may be possible to salvage this page, as the information is useful, but it needs a better title. It's hard to think of a "snappy" one though. "Chronology of opera in Russia" is one idea I've come up with (although that would require chronological re-arrangement). --Folantin (talk) 11:45, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That might not do it, however. The whole focus of this page is all over the place. The 18th century deals with any opera performed in Russia, whether or not it was in Russian or premiered in the country. This stops in the 19th century, even though - to take just one example - many of Boieldieu's operas (in French) received their premiere in Russia in the early 1800s. The 20th century lists works by composers who were born Russia regardless of whether these works were premiered in Russia or were in the Russian language. There may be some viable information here but the question is where to put it. --Folantin (talk) 11:57, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Would a List of Italian opera composers who worked in Russia be viable as a way of hiving off items, with the objective being to eventually reduce it to Russian works only? --Kleinzach 23:36, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect to Russian opera?

But some of the 18th-century composers weren't Italian, even though their operas were. Now I'm starting to think this page is merely a skeletal version of the much fuller main Russian opera article (which is quite "listy" itself). Maybe we should just turn this into a redirect there. --Folantin (talk) 14:10, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, looking at this again, I guess a redirect would be the best option. This is not something I'd want to spend a lot of time fixing. (I've also noticed a lot of mislinks to the wrong operas etc.) --Kleinzach 23:38, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
