More than 100%?

How can Monaco has 100.6% of population being Internet users? Maybe the measuring included some foreigners who were there in Monaco, but it's wrong to write that Monaco has >100% of Internet users. 79.191.216.131 (talk) 15:27, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The figure is the Internet penetration as a percentage of each country's population. Internet World Stats is the cited source: InternetWorldStats for countries of Europe, Asia updated for June 30, 2012.
Internet World Stats gives a figure of 100.6% for Monaco which matches the figure in the article. The percentages can be over 100% because some individuals may have more than one Internet subscription (wired and wireless, home and work, ...) or because the raw Internet user and population data used to calculate the percentage may include estimates.
We may want to switch to data from the ITU rather than Internet World Stats since that is what most Internet usage figures in Wikipedia are based on.

I changed the map to World Bank data. Tetriminos (talk) 10:47, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

scripts for updating data

shell script available for updating the map, and ruby script available for updating the table here:

https://github.com/HLLNSTN/wikipedia-european-stats-map

all that's needed is a copy and paste from the world bank website to a plain text editor, and a few tweaks to the colour coding ranges in the map script
