The Aegean dispute is a set of interrelated controversial issues between Greece and Turkey over sovereignty and related rights in the area of the Aegean Sea. This set of conflicts has had a large effect on Greek-Turkish relations since the 1970s. It has twice led to crises coming close to the outbreak of military hostilities, in 1987 and in early 1996. The issues in the Aegean fall into several categories:

The delimitation of the territorial waters, The delimitation of the national airspace, The delimitation of exclusive economic zones and the use of the continental shelf, The delimitation of Flight Information Regions (FIR), and their significance for the control of military flight activity, The issue of the demilitarized status assigned to some of the Greek islands in the area, Turkish claims of "grey zones" of undetermined sovereignty over a number of small islets, most notably the islets of Imia/Kardak.

While the situation is a political dispute the "unscientific and one sided" comments in this topic are unacceptable.

Merge request

There was a request to merge this article with List of islands of Greece. I removed the request because although the lists contain many of the same islands, their purposes are fundamentally different. This list contains all of the islands in the sea, whether they're Greek or Turkish, while the other list is a country specific list that is meant only to show the islands that are part of Greece. --NormanEinstein 15:17, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Against a Merge If this list includes all islands in the Aegean then it can't be merged in to an article that is a country specific list.  Nipsonanomhmata  (Talk) 13:40, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Does Platy Island exist?

Is there any such island? The link goes to a page describing 2 villages in Greece, but no island. Bards 16:40, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aegean islands

As you correctly state, all the islands in the Aegean Sea are Greek territory, with the exception of Cuda, Imbros and Tenedos where a recognized by the UN Greek minority lives.

Mentioning the Turkish names for the Greek islands serves no educational or other purpose —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.103.171.80 (talk) 12:00, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Aegean islands turkish names

As you correctly state, the Aegean islands with the excemption of Imvros, Tenedos and Cunda belong to Greece. Please erase the list with the turkish names of the Greek islands, since this information is clearly misleading against the Greek sovereignity of an important part of its territory. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.131.13.157 (talk) 20:41, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Aegean Sea islands of Turkey

There are many more Aegean islands in Turkey than what are listed here. See List of islands of Turkey#Aegean Sea islands. Despite what is noted above, this article is about both Greek and Turkish islands in the Aegean Sea. The Ionian Sea islands are not in the Aegean Sea. -- Talk to G Moore 17:11, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
