White and overeducated

I can't remember where I got that line. It might have been the TV documentary on her life. If it really worries you, you can use this instead:

"Although Islam itself was a revelation," Linda recalls, "the commune was full of white middle-class people trying to punish themselves, and everybody else. It taught me a lot. To stay away from sects, mostly."

Bias

The article, while quite informative, is rather biased, and makes a few sweeping POV statements. Do we have, for instance, any sources to cite that LT's breakup with RT was the cause of her hysterical dysphonia? Also, the myth-making and speculation surrounding the final show of the Shoot Out the Lights US tour are fascinating, but not strictly orthodox in an encyclopedia entry. There is a touch of anti-Richard Thompson about the whole article, too. Cravenmonket 14:08, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

There is an article in the January 2008 issues of The Believer in which Linda Thompson says her dysphonia actually started a few months after they were married. There are a few quotes in there about it. I could transcribe them if you want them. Orchidlily (talk) 01:54, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

I tend to agree - the article says things like "On tours and on the albums, however, Linda was given the slowest, and most melancholy songs to sing". This seems like both POV and a misrepresentation. On the program about Richard Thompson with Bob Harris from 2005 (repeated on 7th October 2008 on BBC Radio 2) Linda said "Richard and I were both a pair of miserable buggers", so this seems like a natural outcome in this case. I'm removing the statement that attributes LT's dysphonia to the break-up of her marriage. LT has spasmodic dysphonia, a neurological condition. Biog

More detail could be added to her biog, especially later days. For example, she toured after Fashionably Late but decided not to have the treatment again and now performs only occassionally and sporadically (and with difficulty).
