This article is problematic for using the dismissive Encyclopedia Brittanica text, given that the Latin Anthology's documented history goes at least to the 6th century. See quite specific comments on the strangeness of the Brittanica article here: https://www.jstor.org/stable/4342540?&seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents. Some Remarks on the "Latin Anthology".
