Talk:Kyle Smith (critic)

There are obviously a few Kyle Smiths in the world but my work in minor league baseball jersey collecting is just as important as someone who wrote a book about relationships or a 7th grader at some high school. The last few times I have searched Kyle Smith, I have seen some vulgar comments about someone with the same name. I do not want my name associated with that. I also understand that there is a semi-famous author with the same name. I would love for the author and I to have seperate pages because I have much more I would like to add about the many people who collect and how we go about doing so.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Intheminors (talkcontribs) 22:01, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You already have your own page - it's called a website. If you know how to use it properly, others will write the Wikipedia article for you once you meet the requirements. --Sigma 7 19:48, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Boy, does this article read like an advertisement for this guy, or what? Cleanup please.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.68.230.230 (talk) 14:53, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article is a mess. There are two main problems:
1. There are several Kyle Smiths
2. Repeat vandalism
Most people coming here are looking for the NY Post writer "Kyle Smith" and that is who this article was created for. Right now though, all the information about the writer has been deleted. Needs to be reverted back to what it was in May 2007.Lord of the Ping (talk) 07:39, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I fixed most of it. Still working on it. LOTRrules (talk) 20:40, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Still needs cleanup as of 13 April 2010. Love Monkey did not unilaterally receive great reviews, although one wouldn't know that from this wiki, which reads like a self-inflating webpage.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.210.87.25 (talk) 16:45, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tagged. Compared to other critics' wikipage, this one indeed reads like a blatant advertisement. - Artoasis (talk) 05:54, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

'Controversy'

I'm not sure angry comments on a fringe website like the huffington post passes for controversy... should this not be deleted? And if y'all decide to keep this, then should we not also keep all references to manufactured outrage on every commentboard on this wide internet? where does it stop? -Eli—Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.242.30.23 (talk) 04:34, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oooh..... the irony, proposing deleting references to manufactured outrage, from an article about a person, who is a professional manufacturer of outrage.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.50.28.244 (talk) 07:49, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Encyclopaedic entry or Curriculum Vitae?

This Wikipedia page looks like a blatant advertisement for the Kyle Smith brand. It's fair enough including his various works with a few sentences about what people thought of them, but do we really need the sub-section 'Reception' below his book Love Monkey? This section has four separate gushing reviews, broken down into four lengthy paragraphs. I find this incredibly annoying given that Kyle Smith is mostly known for giving harsh reviews. There seems to be a kind of double standard at play here. If the reviews are to stay, let's have some objectivity at least! A Patient Etherised (talk) 21:04, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Downgrade?

This "article" should be downgraded to Start-Class, imo. In fact, if you removed the calculated puffery for his novels - which are not his chief claim to fame anyway - the info about the man and his career amounts to a stub. There have been neutrality issues here for several years. The C rating appears to legitimize them and sets a bad example for other Wikipedians (especially newbs like myself). Just sayin'.TheBawbb (talk) 15:02, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Aggrandizing edits

It was noted in other discussions that this article reads as an advertisement. Multiple users (e.g. Misterrr and AddDeWitt) seem to have a preoccupation with this page and Kyle Smith generally. These may be sock puppets supporting the subject.

This effectively corrupts this page and it should be entirely rewritten or simply removed. Lovettbr (talk) 07:36, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the edits I tend to agree.--Óli Gneisti (talk) 18:23, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vogue Link

Hello, fellow Wikipedians,

I've tried to link the Vogue quote to the Vogue (magazine) page, but it keeps going to the disambiguation page instead. Help, please? There can be only one...TheKurgan (talk) 23:47, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
