I was just wondering why it hurts so bad to be hit in kidney?!

Answer: A punch to that region hurts because of damage to the floating ribs. That's the most immediate source of the pain. Damage to the kidneys is secondary, and you'll probably only sense referred pain well after the punch actually occurred. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.50.72.156 (talk) 18:53, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This page should be refined (a) to indicate that the discussion refers exclusively to the development of the kidney in humans, and (b) to indicate which animal species develop a metanephros. For example, fish do not develop a metanephros. Msfeatherstone (talk) 07:21, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Human kidneys vs mammalian kidneys vs metanephros

What does this article describes? Clarification needed. If it is about the human kidney development, then it should mention humans in its definition. Also, mammalian kidney development should describe common patterns and differences between mammals. In case of the metanephros (which currently redirects here), the article should cover mammals and birds (it's better to describe avian kidneys development in a separate article).
