Conflict of Interest Tag

The article has had a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest tag since 2007. The article has been edited numerous times since. I'm not aware of a discussion anywhere that discusses how the COI affects the article, and I'm convinced of the veracity of the information, although it needs more references. The tag documentation notes:

"This tag may be removed by any editor after the problem is resolved, if the problem is not explained on the article's talk page, and/or if no current attempts to resolve the problem can be found. The tag should not be removed by an editor with a conflict of interest with respect to topics discussed in the article."

I am thus planning to remove the COI tag in three days (on 20 May 2017), unless someone objects. I intend to replace it with a "needs more references" tag. I am not closely related to the subject.
