Avoiding an edit war

Hi, Velella. I have a copy of the reissue of this book. I've read it twice. Nowhere does Dr. Yudkin quote "rancorous language" by Dr. Keys. Unless you can support this sentence with a proper citation (the entire paragraph is uncited) then I will have to remove this sentence. Thank you. -SusanLesch (talk) 17:34, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No chance of an edit war! It was unclear which part of a longish sentence you were seeking clarification. I had read it that you were unconvinced that the last phrase "... the evidence that sugar was the true culprit" was supported by the reference. I had not realised it was the language used that was under scrutiny. Regards.  Velella  Velella Talk   09:52, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that makes a lot of sense. I'm less interested in developing this story than removing what whoever wrote it thought was a personal vendetta on Keys' part. He is in other sources no fan of Yudkin's but he maintained civility. Thank you. -SusanLesch (talk) 17:12, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored the section on Keys, and have added a couple of examples, duly cited, of the language Keys used in referring to John Yudkin's work. No doubt it is a matter of opinion, but I do not regard these remarks (and there are dozens of similar ones that I might have quoted) as maintaining civility. The vendetta was professional, not personal. Michael Yudkin (talk) 16:37, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder if someone could kindly help me with the dates for reference 3. I've cited the dates as printed in the published article in 'The Medical Officer', which gives '16th and 23rd September 1944'. This is apparently not a standard format for Wikipedia, and presumably that's why there is a note in red asking for a more conventional format. But I'm not clear how I can give one. It doesn't appear to be possible with the current journal citation options (see Template:Cite_journal ) . I suspect that you may have to cite one or other of the two dates. Regards  Velella  Velella Talk   19:11, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much, Velella. Citing only one of the two dates would not accord with the dates printed on the published paper; so even though the present format is non-standard I think I'm inclined to leave it as it is. Kind regards Michael Yudkin (talk) 20:56, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've made minor changes in this article: 1) deleting the description 'physician' (although JY had a medical qualification he did not practise as a physician); 2) cross-referencing to the Wikipedia article on 'Pure, White and Deadly', which was posted on Wikipedia last month.
