Premature retirement
One topic that deserves to be addressed, surely, is why Abp Quinn retired a full 10 years before the mandatory retirement age for Catholic bishops (I have no idea, btw). Ridiculus mus (talk) 07:21, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- A contemporary newspaper report (San Francisco Chronicle16 August 1995) is full of gossip, but suggests that the cause was the Archbishop's vulnerability to stress (which had precipitated a leave-of-absence in 1987) and a conjunction of combustible pastoral issues in 1993 and 1994 which would only have aggravated his condition had he remained in office to deal with them.
