July 2009

I see that a coi tag has been added... When I first submitted the article it was given the same tag by Leonard Bloom. I then explained that my username is not related to this Diamond - I play poker - and he removed the tag. All I can offer is my word, and I don't think I should have to do so to every editor that comes by! Thanks. AKDiamond (talk) 21:52, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just find it suspicious that someone with such a similar username is a major contributor to this article, forgive me for being a skeptic :). -Falcon8765 (talk) 23:13, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're forgiven - if you remove the COI tag. But seriously, how am I possibly meant to prove the lack of relation? It seems a little ridiculous that there will be an eternal coi tag (effectively ruining the article) due simply to a poor name choice. The irony is that if I had a conflict of interest I surely would've noticed the name conflict! Oh well... let me know if there's anything that can be done. Thanks, AKDiamond (talk) 19:34, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have a proposal for you. How about from now on I accept the label of an editor who "may have a conflict of interest"? Therefore from now on I would only be able to make the appropriate non-controversial edits, or propose edits on this Talk header. You would in turn remove the coi tag, after being satisfied that the page content is sufficiently neutral. How does that sound? AKDiamond (talk) 20:56, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the tag as the article isn't excessively self-promotional. Falcon8765 (talk) 17:54, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Falcon. I am impressed with how reasonable the majority of editors that I have encountered on Wikipedia have been - a credit to the open editing model. AKDiamond (talk) 16:18, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My edits

Just as an explanation of my edits:

  • I've removed the various post- and pre-nominal titles from the article per WP:CREDENTIAL, though it's possible that some additional clarifications will be required as a result (e.g., if "diploma" means "Doctor of Medicine", in which case it should be expanded to read as such). I also didn't change it in the title of the first reference, since it's in the title of the page itself (though I did remove the duplicate name from the title - normally the user-friendly title or heading is used, not necessarily the page title itself).
  • We should try to avoid words like "recently", which quickly becomes dated. If anybody has information on exactly when (or even roughly, like "Summer 2009") he was appointed to the PPNF advisory board, that should be specified in the article.
  • I changed the large block of quoted text to a {{cquote}}. That may or may not be the best choice, but it's unusual to quote such a large block of text otherwise. It may be better to simply re-word the information rather than quote it directly.
  • Reduced "promote, disseminate, and teach" to simply "disseminate". I can see the argument for including all three, since they have slightly different meanings, but it sounds like it's taken out of some kind of marketing brochure and for an encyclopaedic article, is probably sufficiently encompassed by just "disseminate". The rest of that section could probably use some re-touching to make it sound less like a brochure as well, but that's not one of my fortés.
  • Made various other minor grammatical corrections per WP:MOS, including switching to logical quoting per WP:LQ.

Great to have another contributor. It seems what I entered wasn't explicit, but where it says he "graduated from Sydney University Medical School" means that he became an MD. He is also a licensed MD in the US. I was actually mistaken on my PPNF info. He has been a member of the PPNF board for quite a while. In 2008 he became a member of their Japanese sister org, the Koushikai Foundation. Sorry, but I don't have a more specific date. Thanks. AKDiamond (talk) 19:19, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the block of quoted text right now seems that it is an article called Third Side of the Triangle written by John Diamond, when it is actually an article called "John Diamond: Third Side of the Triangle". Part of the article is indeed written by him, but the other part - which the quote is from - is written by the AK magazine (no author credit). Is there a good way to clarify this? Thanks, AKDiamond (talk) 15:19, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think the recommendation for article titles in the Wikipedia Manual of Style, to put double quotations around it, is also probably the best solution in this case. I'll go ahead and do that. —RobinHood70 (talkcontribs) 01:25, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed - thanks. AKDiamond (talk) 20:22, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Requested edits April 2010

{{Request edit}}

I'm considered an editor with COI because of my username. I'd like to request a few article edits:

  • The MD suffix should be added after his name, since Diamond graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from Sydney University Medical School.
  • His occupation should be changed to something like 'Holistic Psychiatrist and Physician' since he hasn't practiced orthodox medicine for decades, and because his practice has been just as much psychiatric as physical.
  • When I added "He was recently made an Honorary Advisor to the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation" I was incorrect - he has been for quite some time, though I'm not sure since when. He was actually made Honorary Advisor to the Japanese sister organization of the PPNF, The Koushikai Foundation, some time in 2009. I suggest the sentence to be changed to just say that he is an Honorary Advisor to both of these organizations. Also maybe Koushikai should be added to the "Board member of" section of the sidebar.
  • I added the wrong subtitle for "Life Energy" published by Dodd, Mead - it should be "Life Energy: Unlocking the Hidden Power of Your Emotions to Achieve Total Well-Being". The subtitle I entered was the one for the softcover version published by Paragon.
  • Since the orphan tag was added, a reference to Diamond was added to the article on the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. This may not be enough to warrant removal of the tag, but just thought I should point it out.
  • The biography link in the references is broken and should point here instead: http://www.drjohndiamond.com/main-biography/biography

Question:Who considers you an editor with COI? What is your affiliation with Dr Diamond? --JokerXtreme (talk) 10:09, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Last year Falcon8765 tagged the article with COI. As the original creator of the article, I wanted to remove that blemish from the page, so I agreed to accept the status of an editor with a conflict of interest in order to clear things up. You can find the full discussion on this page. As far as my affiliation goes, it is one of strong interest. My username is actually a reference to my poker hand of choice: the ace and king of diamonds. Thanks, AKDiamond (talk) 14:26, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So there is no actual COI, the way I see it. Maybe you should edit it yourself. And, since most of your edits are about this article, maybe you should change your username at WP:CHU to avoid further confusion. --JokerXtreme (talk) 14:54, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will go ahead and edit the article, as well as apply for a change of username (thanks for pointing out that process). If any other editor has an issue with this, please feel free to respond here. Also, can somebody please "untransclude" this edit request tag? I was unable to figure out precisely what that means. Thanks, AKDiamond (talk) 16:33, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done --JokerXtreme (talk) 17:53, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removed orphan tag

I added links to the article on two appropriate category pages. I believe the page is no longer an orphan. AKD157 (talk) 14:21, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
