Cleaned up article

The incarceration of Jacob Osteicher in Bolivia is a notable story and made headlines in the New York and national media. However the original article contained many facts that don’t belong in a Wiki article. For instance, I removed the mentions of his nice personality, and his relationship to his beautiful family... Ostreicher is no celebrity or national figure; he only ended up in the news because of the story surrounding his long imprisonment in Bolivia and the article should focus solely on this. I also removed many details on the exact number of rice that he had in his storage. The facts were very unclear, and didn’t seem too relevant to the story. I also balanced some of the language so it should meet Wiki guidelines. Jbfair728 (talkcontribs) 17:03, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Who claimed the Jacob Ostreicher case is not notable?

See White House Petition.

There are a great many bio's here that are not flagged for notability which have far less significance than this one.

The subject is notable. The case has been featured in a number of television and print articles. The article needs more info about the hard facts of the case, which I've noticed is hard to come by compared to plentiful coverage of the campaign to free him. My humble suggestion would be to raname the article to "Incarceration of Joseph Ostreicher in Bolivia"--96.56.3.62 (talk) 16:04, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Number of children

It seems that there is conflicting information on the family size of Jacob Ostreicher. The Wiki article links to a VIN News (a popular Jewish news website) story that states that he and his wife have 5 children and 11 grand-children. “Mrs. [Ostreicher] Ungar and her husband have five children and eleven grandchildren and she said that the children are having difficulty coping.” If a user thinks that this info is wrong, please provide a ref to a source that claims otherwise. That same VIN article displays an image with the following caption: "FILE - Jacob Oestreicher next eight of his ten grandchildren." This seems to show that the VIN article is at a conflict with its own claims. I am a son of Miriam Ungar and have been disowned by her and Jacob as has one of Jacob's children. I am deeply troubled about the fact that they would use me and my two children to further their cause when they had cut me off. If they want to use me in the biography, they need to include the fact that they disowned me (and if they use my children they would need to specify that too). In the meantime I am trying to get VIN to edit their article. --Pinkesz (talk) 23:44, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ostriecher speaks about being extorted by former head of FELCC: Colonel Edgar Andrade

This article reports that Ostreicher states he was extorted for $115,000 by a man by the name of Colonel Edgar Andrade who was formerly head of the FELCC (a law enforcement agency in Bolivia)

Perhaps there are corroborating sources for this information.

Arrest and Release of Miriam Ungar

According to this YouTube video Miriam Ungar was arrested and later released:

Ostreicher states that he hasn't seen her in nine months. I wonder if Ostreicher might have gotten confused since it seems that they saw each other at Passover which occurred in early April:

Perhaps he meant eight months, and the incident with Ungar getting arrested occurred during the Passover visit.
