A fact from J. N. L. Baker appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 18 August 2007. The text of the entry was as follows:
|
First Lord Mayor
The text "in 1964–65, he was Lord Mayor of Oxford, the first university member to hold this post" is rather misleading as the position of Lord Mayor only started in 1962. Baker was only the 3rd Lord Mayor. From 1205 to 1962, the position was just that of Mayor and I believe several university people held that position, including for example in 1959 - 60, Frederick Mason Brewer who was head of the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory at that time. I am not sure how to deal with this issue. Any ideas? --Bduke (Discussion) 22:25, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
