Question

Dear Wikipedia Editors,
I do not understand all the mark-ups and comments on this article. ISTC is a similar organisation to Society for Technical Communication (STC), except that it is based in the UK rather than the US. STC has similar text to ISTC, has hyperlinks to its journals etc, and only has one request for a citation. What is the reason for the different standards apparently being applied to ISTC?
I was a fan of Wikipedia, but I'm not so sure anymore.

That other articles are similar is not the question, there are issues here (and maybe somewhere else as well). The majority of the edits have been performed by someone who seems to be part of the organisation (see the conflict of interest guideline). The article tagging is according to the concerns there are with the article. I see the editor is busy repairing edits, and adding references, when the issues are resolved, then the tags can be deleted. Hope this explains. --Dirk Beetstra T C 14:01, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply but it does not help potential editors very much. For example there is a Wikify tag. The article contains 11 links to actual Wikipedia articles. How many internal links are required? Or, how many references are required?
I have looked at articles on similar subjects for guidance about acceptable Wikipedia style. STIC in Dutch and Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Technische Kommunikation in German as well as STC in English are all very different, so as a potential editor I have no idea how to improve this article or add any new ones.

For the references and notability tag, the majority is to websites related to this subject, a couple of other sources, and at least the first tag can go (probably also the second). If the formatting is properly like described in the WP:MOS, and has a decent couple of wikilinks, then that one can go as well. For the COI and advertisment tags, I would like to see an established editor, with knowledge in the subject, to go through the article, and assess (or rewrite and assess) that, these tags will then be removed.
These tags put the article in appropriate categories, and established editors will at some point arrive here, and have a look at it. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:13, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declaration of interest

I am a member of the ISTC, but this is the first time I have visited or edited this article. I didn't think it deserved a three-tag banner, so I reduced it to one tag (COI, which I guess can't be avoided until we can attract some editors who are not members). The article doesn't read like an advert to me, so I removed that tag. I think I can defend the ISTC's status as notable, as it has paying members, a commercial website that's been there for years, a monthly magazine and a number of other publications to its name.

Of course, if anyone wants to dispute my edits then I'll be happy to make further changes. --Heron (talk) 17:11, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The ISTC is not a profit-making organisation; therefore, the website is not "commercial". Nunquam Dormio (talk) 18:26, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
