Shouldn't the hyms be listed by title and not by their first line? --Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 03:06, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Marian litanies and antiphons

As I was fixing this page, I also looked at the Marian litany page. That one needs work, and I am not up to doing that right now, so help in fixing that will be appreciated, as discussed on that talk page there.

Now, to what extent does it make sense to combine hymns and litany discussions into one article? As discussed within this page, there are Eastern hymn litanies, so some of that may make sense. But as to whether the two topics need to be combined, I am about 50% sure at best, so suggestions will be appreciated, but that may as well sit by itself.

However, I think it makes much more sense to bring in Marian antiphon into here. Ideas? Thanks. History2007 (talk) 13:43, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, I think that Marian antiphons can be a section within this article. Should we also combine it with Roman Catholic Marian music? --Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 21:40, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I commented on the Afd that closed now, that two items should probably be mentioned now regarding that merge suggestion. Before it was mostly just a list of hymns, but now it has much new info. Now, the first point is that not all hymns have been set to music, and some chanted hymns may be used on their own unaccompanied by any musical instrument. Secondly, as the first section of the article discusses, it now turns out that hymns are a key part of the liturgy of the Eastern Church, and indeed the Eastern Orthodox place as much (if not more) emphasis on them as part of liturgy than Roman Catholics. So it is not just about Roman Catholics. But on a separate note some Anglican items in this article will be good now. History2007 (talk) 21:50, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
