A note

Human ecology is a problematic field to describe, since it is not one subject, but several that uses the same name. Thus, as a starter, this page should have a "ambigious word" entry, so that one can link to different meanins of the word human ecology. For instance, home economics is called Human ecology in many places in the US. The Chicago school of sociology is much different than the two journals that are includes, one belongs to anthropology, the other one is a vague mix of little of everything, but neither is based in sociology. The whole page needs major clean-up and improvement.

In addition to the above, I would submit that the term Social_ecology overlaps with much of the concepts on this Human Ecology entry, rather than primarily the Murray_Bookchin predominated current concept. Perhaps the two pages need to be expressly linked somehow and rationalised?

In response to the initial note, preliminary updates have been made to correct historical details related to the development of the term "human ecology" and connections to the discipline(s) of home economics/human ecology. Sections of the article may have a sociological slant which may require additional balancing. It is agreed that additional clean-up and improvement of the page are needed, including the "See Also" section.

More work has been done in the history section to attempt to integrate multidisciplinary historical development. It should also be noted that the history is currently North America-centric and does not fully reflect important developments in Europe. Also, in the contemporary academic/professional field "Human Ecology" as used by a number of NA universities, there are also also ties to Material Culture, etc. not yet mentioned. Agreed that an "ambiguous word" entry may be useful as suggested above.

Overall, this article is decent. There is clear structure and balanced content, and the tone is neutral and has good sourcing. The reference section is extensive and there is lots of citation. However, the lead section is lacking and not very detailed. There is also an instance or two of value statements such as "most important". This should not be included because each article should be as unbiased as possible with no statements signaling opinion. In these aspects this article could use work, but it generally is a good source for information. LilHorton (talk) 19:37, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Major work needed

I have been the primary author of ecology for some time now. The ecology article is too large and I want to reduce its size. I would like to place the section material into this article - but it will take some time to integrate it. I'm going to do a bit of work in here - with broad sweeps - please bear with me for a little while. I will do my best to save some of the material in here - but in all honesty it is just a list of stuff lacking any real integration.Thompsma (talk) 18:05, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am gradually grabbing the garbled text at the base of this article - reading the citations, fixing the text, and them migrating it to relevant sections of the article. The historical development section could probably use some sub-headings...any ideas??Thompsma (talk) 06:52, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Further Reading

Would someone be willing to give me a hand and go through the long list of further reading at the end of this article? If the list could be reduced to include those publications that are not in the references section - this would be a great help.Thompsma (talk) 06:52, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

At suggestion

Someone suggested on my User Talk Page that I at least glance over this Article, which I did. I don't see any striking need for further changes at the moment. The Mysterious El Willstro (talk) 05:26, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Relation to Human Behavioral Ecology

Might be useful to add at least a little bit in this article on the relation of Human Ecology to Human behavioral ecology. DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 19:16, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
