Semi-protected edit request on 28 May 2014

In the article, in the Neilson Ratings table, Season 9 "rank" and "avg. Viewers" are still being shown as "TBA". The 2013-14 TV season series rankings were released already(on May 22), here is the link:[1] http://www.deadline.com/2014/05/tv-season-series-rankings-2013-full-list-2/ According to the list How I Met Your Mother Season 9 had "28" rank and "10.511 Million" avg. viewers. The data should be added into the table. The link is authentic and the rankings from it have already been added on the Wiki pages of other tv shows like Big Bang Theory or Modern Family. Considering that this is the highest rank/viewers HIMYM has ever gotten in all 9 seasons.. it should be updated asap.

Also, the text above the table saying "Season seven was the highest watched season overall and among the 18–49 adults, scoring a 4.1 rating in that sector up from the 3.4 rating it had for season six." should be changed to "Season nine became the highest watched season overall and among the 18-49 adults, scoring a 4.5 rating in that sector, upstaging Season 7 which was the highest watched season till now." Done Thanks for the request. I've made the changes - please review them and check they are what you wanted. (One minor alteration is that you stated "10.511 million" - in line with the other numbers in the table, I rounded that to two decimal places.) Bilorv (talk) 10:21, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Percentage in viewing numbers section

says 54%, should be 48% now that the finale has surpassed s01e10 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sinani206 (talkcontribs) 02:17, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Blue French horn

"Alluding to first season, the finale ends with Robin looking out her apartment window to see Ted on the street holding the Blue French Horn."

Blue French horn? What blue French horn? Neither the section in this article on season one nor the separate article on season one says anything about a blue French horn.... 24.61.4.237 (talk) 01:41, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Edit the last sentence of the introduction

I would like to mention that the finale did not receive "polarizing reception from both critics and fans" for its "controversial twist", but because it was shit. Now, obviously, I can't make a decent edit without mentioning the word "shit" at least a few times, so could someone else turn that into an encyclopedia-fitting phrase? No, because we base our content on what reliable sources say and plenty of them enjoyed the finale. You might think it's shit, but contrast that with my opinion: it was fucking amazing. The twist was what divided most opinion; it was my second favourite part of the finale, whereas it might have ruined the show for you. It's the source of the "polarized reception". Wikipedia isn't here to say anything new or make an overall judgement, just to amalgamate a few sources (while avoiding WP:SYNTH); some critics like it, some didn't, so that's what we say. — Bilorv(talk)(c)(e) 22:32, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Citation 6 refers to the following URL: http://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/more-related-content/?relatedmovieid=771362382/ This URL directs to the user to the Rotten Tomatoes News & Interviews page, not any HIMYM-specific content. The link should be changed to: https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/article/himym-tomatometer-watch-series-finale-currently-rotten/ . Barney's job description is misleading

The following line from Barney's portion of the Cast section is misleading: "Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson, the holder of P.L.E.A.S.E (Provide Legal Exculpation And Sign Everything) at Goliath National Bank (which is a constant theme throughout the show) and Ted's "bro"." Throughout the show, the group knows that Barney works for GNB, but nobody knows what exactly Barney does. When asked what Barney does, he responds, "Please." Barney's apparent refusal to answer the question is a recurring element throughout the show. It isn't until the last season that we find out that "P.L.E.A.S.E." is actually an acronym for Barney's job description.

I think the first line of Barney's description should emphasize his friendship with Ted and his womanizing tendencies, which are his most prominent characteristics. Then, the mystery surrounding his role at GNB should be addressed.

Running Jokes/Gags

The paragraph in the Production section about HIMYM's many euphemisms seems out of place. I would suggest a new section for this sort of thing as HIMYM has no shortage of running jokes. Doppelgangers, Barney's job, the Yellow Umbrella, the Slap Bet. Also, as well as using framing devices to tell the vast majority of the story (either Ted telling his kids in 2030 or one of the gang telling the others a story) it's often very 'meta' or metafictional, adding to its eccentric humour. This is best explained with an example. In the episode How I Met Everyone Else, Ted's girlfriend is referred to as Blah Blah (Blah for short) because the 2030 version of Ted cannot remember her name. Similarly in the episode Perfect Week, Barney is telling a story and the gang say things like 'I wish I were as amazing as Barney' because it is from his perspective. This is a defining and unique feature of the show that should be mentioned. Christomms (talk) 03:42, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Yes, you're right about the running jokes paragraph – I've removed it. In all honesty, quite a lot of this article really needs to be cut down (the important details should already be covered in the season and episode articles). I agree that the story is quite metafictional, but for that to be included you might need to find a reliable source that points this out – are there any reviews of the show that mention its meta-humour? The intro section says initial reviews were positive and later reviews were mixed. The reception section says initial reviews were mixed. I dunno what the threshold is between them but the article should be consistent. 66.87.145.172 (talk) 15:57, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
