No, because this article is not about Iraq specificly. The parent category famous hostages would be better although I'm not completely happy with it. It should simply be "hostages". Wipe 30 June 2005 01:48 (UTC)

Redundancy, improve by merging paragraphs

There is some redundancy between these two paragraphs -- can someone merge them?

Globalize

There is a worldwide view problem in the modern era section Hostage#Illegal_hostage_taking:

• it's dominated by the USA legal situation (see comment above)
• the International Convention Against the Taking of Hostages http://www1.umn.edu/humanrts/instree/takinghostages.html is mentioned as just an afterthought to the USA instead of as a major legal aspect in XXI-st century law (and it doesn't yet appear to have its own wikipedia article)
• probably Colombia is a country where hostage-taking of rich families' children is extremely common
• there must be other national legislative approaches and frequencies of occurrence known.

The section name "Illegal hostage taking" probably also needs renaming, to something like "XX/XXI century legal situation", but this needs to be literature-researched better first. It may well be the case that hostage-taking only became illegal in the XX-th century, but this probably could become obvious from e.g. a subsection about the convention.
