Ybor

Given that the memorial to Ybor in Ybor City notes his names as Vicente Martinez Ybor, and not Vincente, and that Vicente seems to be the preferred spelling in city publications and at the Ybor City State Historic Park, I've changed the spelling here, at the Tampa article, and redirected the current stub. Or at any rate I will have done so shortly... Thehappysmith 12:12, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

pre-Columbian history

I really think that this article (and the main Tampa article) should include more about life here before the arrival of Spanish explorers. I'll get started on it (soon), but the more the merrier... Zeng8r 19:57, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

British Rule

The sentance starts "Great Britain acquired Florida in 1763..." so why is it titled 'English Rule'? Did England, somehow operating separately from Britain acquire Florida? Or is this yet again a result of incorrect British Isles (terminology). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.98.207.183 (talk) 07:54, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

20th century history

Before tackling the pre-Columbian stuff, I'm going to work on the more recent past first. It looks like I'll have to re-do pretty much everything, and I'll probably dump the kid flying into the building story (not relevent to Tampa history as a whole) and the wildfires section (ditto, tho I'll include the '04 hurricane season).

Any thoughts, anyone? Zeng8r 19:30, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

U of Tampa info deletion

Why was the reference to UT's continued existence deleted? I can't think of a good reason and the edit summary doesn't make sense. Zeng8r 18:52, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:U.S Custom House c1905.jpg

Image:U.S Custom House c1905.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Invite to Viva Florida 500

I'd like to invite fellow Wikipedians interested in Florida history to join in our new project page for celebrating our state's 500th anniversay at Viva_Florida_500. Please review and join in getting this project off the ground. It's more than just about Ponce de Leon and his landing it is also about other cultures and what new content we can bring into Wiki such as adding new information about the Native Cultures that were here when this period of discovery began.--Ourhistory153 (talk) 14:37, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Five Riots in Tampa

The former "Tampa Riots" article was recently moved to Five Riots in Tampa. The new name doesn't really make sense, imo, but whatever you call it, I don't think that it makes for a good article. It consists of very short entries about five different "riots" - four concerning racially-tinged disturbances in east Tampa and another about the infamous incident in which fans grew unruly after a Led Zeppelin concert in Tampa Stadium was cut short by a thunderstorm. It's a really weird combination.

The four racial disturbances could be better covered as part of a potential new section in this article about the Civil Rights Movement in Tampa (or something to that effect). The concert incident is already covered in the Tampa Stadium article; not sure it deserves any more mention than that.

Thoughts? Zeng8r (talk) 19:46, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That is certainly an odd title. I think your suggestion makes good sense. -- Donald Albury 23:48, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Integrating into a Civil Rights section seems like a good idea, although it may get cut down in order not to overweight. Candleabracadabra (talk) 23:50, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

More than five annexed municipalities?

I can't find any evidence that Ybor City was incorporated. On the other hand, Sulphur Springs Park was incorporated in 1921, bounded by Nebraska, Waters, Lamar, and the Hillsborough River, and there were two East Tampas, one annexed in 1911 and the other renamed from Gary in 1919 and possibly annexed in 1925. Also, North Tampa was merged in 1887, not 1885. --NE2 00:35, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What is missing from the recently created city timeline article? Please add relevant content. Contributions welcome. Thank you. -- M2545 (talk) 14:56, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
