more sources on ease of learning of more or less "naturalistic" auxlangs?

Was any study done on comparative ease of learning of more and less "naturalistic" (in the auxlang-ology sense) auxlangs for monolingual people whose native language is unrelated to the auxlangs source languages? E.g., did [Edward Thorndike]] study the relative ease of Esperanto and Occidental for native speakers of Japanese or some other non-European language? If so, can we get a cite on that one way or another? Thorndike's study is mentioned in this article, but no cite for it is given. --Jim Henry (talk) 19:16, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
