This page was started to facilitate access to licensing requisites possed upon workers in healthcare occupations. Information on licensure, certification and specific training which equates to having a card that vouches for a competency can be illustrated in this article.

I began the article so that it could hold its category under healthcare and pave the way for more articles on specific certifications and licenses in the healthcare field.

This article has the potential to make clear the specific licenses and certifications that health care providers must posses in order to practice.

In a world where lack of knowlege of actual or industry terms creates impoverishment thid article/category makes commonplace the industry known standards thereby providing further opportunity to those using Wikipedia to educate themeselves.

Wikipedia currently does not have an order of category or articles which directly head-up health care provider requirements such as the BLS req. and other general req. such as completing with competency a Hospital Fire and Life Safety course. The requirements are often legislated into being and have a wide reach which I believe warrants special inclusion for the expediency of all. Thank you Wikipedia community.

The problem is that such information can be found on the websites of the various authorities that regulate the profession. Since Wikipedia is not legal advice, this sort of information does not belong in a separate article. Some of the content from other pages has been moved and/or synthesized here, and cross-references made to this article. If it is to continue to exist, then ideally it could act as clearing house for relevant information. But in order to be useful, I think it needs to remain somewhat general for worldwide relevance, as the specific requisites for a given professional title change across jurisdictions and over time within jurisdictions.Guptan99 (talk) 13:11, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

The health care providers article covers both individuals and institutions; thus I think this article should also cover institutional as well as individual licensing requirements. However I also agree with Guptan99 above, that it should remain generic and attempt to capture the general trends in licensing, as opposed to being a complete source on medical licensing requirements which vary greatly over time and space.--Karl.brown (talk) 19:40, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Rewrite Proposal

Hello, this article appears to require some maintenance as the purpose appears unclear. Seemingly random combinations of occupations and jurisdictions are quoted. Occasionally, in odd sections of the article.

I believe that this article needs a re-write/overhaul but there should be consensus on what the purpose must be. Is this article meant to list the registration requirements of each individual healthcare profession in every country? I believe this seems like a large and insurmountable task.

I agree with the above comments from 10 years ago (Guptan99) and Karl.brown, in that specific requirements should remain generic.

What I propose is for it to act almost like an index to health regulators in each country and to state what professions that body regulates. The rationale for this is that each regulator will specifically state what the requisite requirements for registration (if required) are for their respective jurisdiction.

This is still a large task but it is much more reflective and won't need updated as much as an index of registration requirements for every healthcare profession in every country. This also appears to be in line with the original purpose of this article.

What I propose:

• Main descriptive heading - which is largely complete.
• Evaluation of purpose/advantages/disadvantages to licensure backed by qualitative and quantitative evidence.
• General requirements, no country examples as this risks spiralling out of control with country specific adds.
• Large section with table depicting the regulators/registrars per country.
  • This potentially could be a separate article. I had a quick look and could not find a list of healthcare profession regulators/registrars/registration bodies on Wikipedia. Happy to be shown this if I have missed it as then we could simply link to it.
• Brief section on practice without licensure (I do not think that we should start to specific the penalties of Practicing without a license as this is a complex topic with is continually changing rapidly in each jurisdiction.

I think defining the purpose of articles in general hard, and I worry that restrictive purposes allow for "capture" of articles by particularly modes modes of thought, I think think a valid additional purpose of this page is helping patients and people in society understand how medicine is regulated and how this regulation could be changed. This is somewhat different from being an index.

I am rather doubtful we will be able to justify most of the arguments for licensure in an evidence backed fashion - but if sources speaking to this exist they will be useful.

I agree that individauls examples become unwieldy - however... I also think international sources might be hard to find. Talpedia 22:48, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
