@Nigel Ish: Please see MOS:CONFORM, which says "A quotation is not a facsimile and, in most cases, it is not a requirement that the original formatting be preserved. Formatting and other purely typographical elements of quoted text should be adapted to English Wikipedia's conventions without comment provided that doing so will not change or obscure meaning or intent of the text; this practice is universal among publishers. These are alterations which make no difference when the text is read aloud ..." English Wikipedia's conventions call for italics in names of ships. I was following the MoS: "Formatting ... should be adapted to English Wikipedia's conventions". Beyond that, the text of an external link that follows the URL may be the title of an external page or just a description that will help the reader know what to expect when that link is followed. There is no need to startle or confuse the reader by using a style that is not what Wikipedia readers are familiar with. Christhe spelleryack 14:02, 12 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
