Fair use rationale for Image:HMAS adelaide crest.gif

Image:HMAS adelaide crest.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Unsupported content removed from article

I have removed the following content from the article because it is not supported by the references attached to it, or these references may not meet the criteria for reliable sources. -- saberwyn 06:44, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • On 8 Jan 1981, whilst conducting sound ranging in Carr Inlet, Puget Sound, Washington, Adelaide grounded and suffered major propeller damage, necessitating replacement of her propeller and delaying her workup and delivery voyage to Australia.[1]
    • Various search engines and the Internet Archive cannot find the source, or the hosting site. The phrasing of the reference "title" implies that this is a personal account of the event, therefore may not be reliable.
  • On 22 July 2007, it was reported that a party of Australian navy personnel from Adelaide successfully repelled a 4-hour capture attempt from five Iranian gunboats near the Iraq-Iran maritime border during Operation Catalyst on 6 December 2004.[2][3] Two personnel from the crew (LCDR Tony Johnston and Petty Officer Andrew Keitley) were awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for their efforts to save the boarding party. [4]
    • Neither news article mentions the ship involved, and with no indication of the time of the event, it cannot be reconciled with the presence of a particular Australian ship operating in the Gulf without more information. The "itsanhonour" cite is too broad to identify the content it is trying to support.

Futher to the above, sources identifying Adelaide's tole in the Iranian incident have been found, and similar content has since been reintroduced to the article. -- saberwyn 02:32, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Scuttling photos

I've uploaded one photo of the scuttling, but have plenty more from both the scuttling itself (gotta love a camera with stutterfire) and throughout the morning. If anyone thinks that a different photo showing more or less of the ship would be better, let me know and I'll have a look, with the caveat that any photo I have of the scuttling itself will be from similar angles. -- saberwyn 21:08, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wandering buoys

Just thought I'd note this Tele article about the sabotage of marker buoys at the wreck site. I'm not sure if its worth including in the article, but noting it here in case it is, or there are further developments from this incident. -- saberwyn 02:32, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Upcoming AusGeo article
