Significance?

"Green sulfur bacteria appear in Lake Matano, Indonesia, at a depth of approximately 110–120 meters. The population may include the species, Chlorobium ferrooxidans"

What is the significance of this finding? What is the light level (and wavelengths) measured at this depth? Why "may include"? Is ferrooxidans extremely divergent in some genetic or phenotypic aspect? This seems a very weak sentence to include in a general GSB article.

Clarification/details

"Photosynthesis is achieved using bacteriochlorophyll (BChl) c, d, or e, in addition to BChl a and chlorophyll a,[3]"

Some talk about where the Chl a and BChl a are found in terms of photosynthesis (reaction center only, AFAIK) would be warranted.

A brief mention of the color of these organisms (c&d are green, e is brown [but still called GSB]) and the potentially co-occurring dominant carotanoids (and other photopigments?) and the roles of these would be helpful.

Photosynthesis equation

This article is a bit techy for someone who is not expert. Elsewhere I've read that green sulfur bacteria use the equation

CO₂ + 2H₂S = CH₂O + H₂O + 2S

as compared with

CO₂ + 2H₂O = CH₂O + H₂O + O₂

Is this correct? If so it might be helpful to the reader as a simpler summary before getting into the details. Robert Walker (talk) 08:45, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
