Waiheke Island is described as the "third most populated island in New Zealand", which is very different from being the third largest in area. -- Avenue 07:39, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Great Barrier Island links

MadMaxDog - www.thebarrier.co.nz isn't a commercial site, it was created to allow anyone from Great Barrier Island to list their holiday property, business, activity for free. It is the only comprehensive listing of information for Great Barrier Island because it is free. All visitors are directed to the owner/operator by web links and email. The Tourism Auckland site is a commercial site and does not list all the holiday properties on the island because the small operators can't afford to pay the commission charged by Tourism Auckland for bookings. I had a closer look at your page, and you do seem pretty comprehensive, from what I know, having been on the island twice. I am tending towards accepting the link. I agree with MadMaxDog in that the website is comprehensive - there is little out there as comprehensive in comparison. By rights someone should probably keep an eye on the non-commercial www to ensure 'thebarrier' remains the leader in this field. L-Bit 10:47, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

FitzRoy vs Fitzroy

Anyone can shed some "official" light on the debate? Its often spelled with a capital R, but there are also government agencies who spell it without a second capital, so... Ingolfson (talk) 05:21, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Pending page rename

Great Barrier Island is going to be renamed. The Local Board has officially changed its name. From the local government elections later this year, the local board will be known as Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board.

There is an intention to rename Great Barrier Island as part of the Treaty settlement with Ngati Rehua Ngatiwai ki Aotea. The name of the island has not yet changed but will eventually do so when the Treaty settlement negotiations are finalized.

"Stand by to rename this page." No, not necessarily. The page's name should be the island's common name in English, which is likely to remain "Great Barrier Island" for at least the near future; see WP:OFFICIALNAMES and WP:COMMONNAME, and note, for example, that the page for Stewart Island remains titled as such, despite that island's official name now being "Stewart Island/Rakiura".
