Google Foundation vs. Google.org

These are two seperate entities. The Google Foundation is a not-for-profit organization with an endowment of $90 million. Google.org, however, is a "for profit charity", probably one of the first of its kind, with $1 billion seed money from Google. These are both very different beasts and as such should be considered seperately. At the same time, this article is currently very inaccurate because its considering the two things as one, and I'll attempt to fix that. --Tedivm 07:24, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article seems to have been fixed

The article seems to only contain information partaining to google.org now.

need a source for that piece of data, it was reported in the new york times online, but that can only be read by members so it does not serve as a good source. If you can find a refrence please cite it.

Actually, Google gave Google.org 3 million shares of stock during their IPO. That has a current market value of around $2 billion, but will fluctuate over time. It's not clear how much of that stock has been sold, but I doubt it's much considering they've only donated around $15 million so far. Source:

Fixing the merge

The merge of Google Foundation into the accompanying article simply added the body text of the foundation article as the text of a section of Google.org, making no effort to justify its inclusion there or eliminate repetitive language. I've refactored the existing text & added new material, drawing on

Fair use rationale for Image:Googledotorg.gif

Image:Googledotorg.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Peer Review

I think there should be a section about the leadership of google.org, and the paragraph, "The director from 2006 until 2009 was Dr. Larry Brilliant.[11] Upon stepping down, Brilliant was replaced by Megan Smith, Google's Vice-President of new business development, and the organization began focusing on creating engineering solutions to global problems with projects such as Google Flu Trends and Crisis Response, an effort to respond to natural disasters.[12] Megan Smith later left to join the office of the CTO under the Obama administration, at which point Google.org began focusing exclusively on its charitable giving initiatives under the stewardship of Jacquelline Fuller, who currently runs the organization" should go there, not be mixed in with the "Previous initiatives" section.

The article should also mention how google.org has worked and is working with the #BLM founders, as Justin Steele talked about in class. Also, make sure to update all the numbers, about how much google.org has donated.
