Talk:Geology of Australia

Untitled

This is a serious project to describe adequately the geology of a whole continent, so bear with. You *could* tag this for cleanup, but thats disingenuous because as far as I know I'm the only aussie geologist on wikipedia so you could be honest and just ask me to add bits in. So, that's why this may take a little while to get finished and spruced up to the "high" level exemplified b othergeology articles on wikipedia.

I will also attempt to get a few of the sedimentary basins fleshed out, and tackle the list of Australian orogenies, although, once again, some of these are significant and complex events, so there will be a significant amount of work, especially in referencing these things, secifically for ones which I am not entirely familiar with at this stage. Carboniferous

"The Carboniferous Period saw the Eastern Highlands of Australia form as a result of its collision with what are now parts of South America (e.g. the Sierra de Cordoba) and New Zealand." This is wrong: In Paläogeographie Australia was never a neighborhood of South Amerika and collidied with this continent. The Eastern Highlands formed later in Cretaceous bei opening the Tasman basin (see also East Tasman Plateau).

Ref. also the disk in the german artikel. I hope, this is o.k.--Chillibilli (talk) 15:18, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
