@Gerda Arendt: There are links here that surprised me, for example Tosca, Madama Butterfly, La traviata, in which the text is referring to the title role and not the opera itself. I don't think I have seen this done before. You have normally phrased things as "the title role in ...". It raises the question as to whether the link should be italicized in this case (some edits have removed it). Has this ever been identified as a problem area? No, never problematic. Actually, I often inserted "the title role" in older articles not "by me", some of which wouldn't even mention Verdi, (and sure, Aida wouldn't even need a link). In the body, I still normally say "the title role(s)". In the lead, where we want to be short, I tend to drop that, and, as the role, it should not be italic (but as I copy for the lead from the body, I forget ...). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:00, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I did that in this very article. and not only title roles were linked (and composer-less) like that, but also Euridice and Desdemona, and it stayed like that for 12 years. Opera buffs know of course who Desdemona is for primary topic (if it was Rossini's I hope that the composer would be added), - the piped link is for the others. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:05, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
