I (a professional mathematician specialising in algebraic geometry) completely concur with TakuyaMurata's assessment: Vezzosi's mathematical work is without any doubt notable, as is amply indicated by his organizing Oberwolfach and MSRI workshops on his working area. (Organizing a workshop at such locations means that the mathematical community recognizes the expertise and influence of a person on the subject in question.)
