:I did add information/contribution a bit ago, however I don't know if I added it in the right spot, so in case I will add information here again. I have tried to update and add information to the listing for Fred Roy Krug, however, my skills are limited and I was unable to add. I'm hoping this information is added to the correct response area.

:Fred Roy Krug passed away earlier this month. He along with a handful of others was a pioneer in the wildlife/animal documentary we now enjoy today. As a Director, Producer, Cinematographer and VP of Bill Burrud Productions, he worked on bringing the first two wildlife televisions shows to the general public. Both 'Animal World' and 'Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom' were the first. He also was on the team that brought the first fitness program to television, 'The Jack LaLanne Show'. These shows were the frontrunners to much of what we see on TV today. A fun trivia fact is he was also Krug was endorsed for membership into the Director’s Guild by Roy Disney and served as planner and Picket Captain of the Directors Guild of America's 'first and only' industry strike, of July 14,1987. (3 hours and 5 minutes after the DGA action began on the East Coast, and just moments after members had begun to walk in California, a settlement was reached and "The Five Minute Strike", as it has since been called in Hollywood, was canceled.).

:Pioneer of Wildlife Documentaries and TV, Fred R. Krug, Dies at 94

:TV Producer, Director, Cinematographer, Photographer, Writer and Reporter, Fred R. Krug, 94, passed away of natural causes in Solvang, California with his family at his side.

:A pioneer in wildlife documentaries and travel shows as well as his TV series and film, Krug led an adventurous life. In his early career he dined with Picasso, worked with the Beatles at their first Hollywood Bowl concert, danced with the Nicholas Brothers, worked with Gypsy Rose Lee, Louis Armstrong, Ricardo Montalban, Cornel Wilde, Jayne Mansfield, George Jessel, Victor Jory, Ralph Bellamy, Dana Andrews, Tino Rossi, King Michael of Romania, Jean Simmons, Agnes Moorehead, Bill Burrud, Art Linkletter, John Kitzmiller, Tippi Hedren and many more. Krug’s career led him to the jungles of Peru, Ecuador and Brazil, the grasslands, forests and streets of India, Zululand, South Africa, the Serengeti, Kenya, the high country of New Zealand, mountains of Italy and Switzerland and around the globe.

:Krug was born in Bern, Switzerland and purchased his first movie camera at the age of 10 on layaway in a small photography shop and started making short films where he lived in Basel, Switzerland. His life goal at a very young age was of working in Hollywood. At 16 he became a photographer and writer for the local newspaper and covered the entertainment and art scene in Europe. He translated and wrote the German version of Bram Stokers novel, Dracula. Having made a name for himself, he boarded the Queen Mary and sailed to the United States. Living and working in New York City for a short time, he then made his way to Los Angeles and arranged to meet MGM’s Montage Director, Peter Ballbusch who was also from Switzerland. They became lifelong friends and soon after their meeting, Krug began working in Hollywood.

:Krug wanting to become a US citizen joined the US Army and being multilingual, was sent to Fulda, Germany where he worked in Intelligence and also ran the base radio station and booked visiting celebrity entertainment. He met his future wife Rosemary in Fulda and prior to returning to the US, married and had a daughter, Vivian.

:Returning to the US, Krug continued his work and had a long career in the entertainment field. His passion of animals, primarily large cats, led him to working at Bill Burrud Productions, where he was a Producer, Director and Cinematographer for ‘Animal World’ and Cinematographer of ‘Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom’, the first two ‘Prime Time’ Animal Documentary TV series. Krug was a camera operator on the TV series ‘Chips’, ‘Mr. Blackwell Presents’, ‘The Challenging Sea’ and ‘The Magical World of Disney’.

:Krug produced the TV series ‘The American West’, the ‘World of Woman’ and TV movies, ‘The World of Reptiles’ and ‘The Great Apes’. Krug was the Stage Manager for TVs first fitness program, the ‘Jack LaLanne Show’.

:Krug was a Cinematographer and Film-Videotape Director at KCOP-TV studios for five years and the temporary Station Manager between location shooting at KBAK-TV in Bakersfield as they tried to fill the position.

:Krug was the Executive Producer of the movies, ‘Across the Great Divide’, ‘Adventures of the Wilderness Family’ and ‘Mountain Family Robinson’ as well as Director for several Walt Disney Wonderful World of Color TV movies, ‘The Secret of Old Glory Mine’ and ‘The Golden Dog’.

:Krug was endorsed for membership into the Director’s Guild by Roy Disney. Krug, a long standing member in both the Producers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America, served as planner and Picket Captain of the Directors Guild of America's first and only industry strike, of July 14,1987. :Krug enjoyed volunteering and served as President of the Hollywood Rotary Club and while in the club produced a radio commercial with Art Linkletter for the Rotary International Polio Program. When retiring to Santa Ynez, CA he was the President of the Santa Ynez Rotary Club.

:Krug’s other passion, flying. An avid private pilot, Krug enjoyed flying his Cessna as well as the Schweizer SGS 2-33 Glider. Krug was also a pilot in U.S. Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol, in the rank of Major and enjoyed flying CAP/USAF missions.

:Throughout his life, Krug enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. Krug and his wife Rosemary, traveled throughout the United States, Russia, China, Vietnam, Central and South America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

:Krug is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rosemary, his daughter Vivian Krug-Cotton, son-in-law Samuel Cotton, nieces and nephews in Germany. VivKrug (talk) 17:11, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
