GERMAN SIEGE OF 963-964.
King Otto I , king of Germany, besieged the fortress of San Leo to force Berengario II, king of Italy, to surrender. In January 964 the Italian garrison, exhausted, surrendered. King Berengario II was taken prisoner and with him his wife, queen Villa. Berengario II died at Bamberg (Germany) on August 6, 966, as prisoner.
