Rewrite

Found this article as I was working on coordinates and it's a mess. I'm cutting out the first-person content and pasting it in here for now. Article needs complete rewrite. Duttler (talk) 00:25, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There are multiple articles online about Forest Haven and some of its former occupants; easily found through a Google search (Forest Haven asylum). I don't know how to add the hyperlinks here but wanted to share the info. There is also a photo set on Flikr that is in the Google search. Just don't confuse it with the nursing home, video game or rental cottage.
I just drove out there (it's about 8 minutes away from me) to gather some information since the information online is a little sketchy. What I've found and subsequently looked up in Google (search Oak Hill Youth Center and New Beginnings Youth Center) is described below.
It is now gated and guarded and "undergoing changes" (says the guard at the gate) and "government property, you can't just go poking around". It's now the New Beginnings Youth Center (the relocated Oak Hill Youth Center, moved in 2009) and the guard confirmed that it's a juvenile detention center. The satellite pictures show a new set of buildings with cars parked out front that are kind of behind the original dilapidated Forest Haven buildings, which is the new detention center. The old center, by description, is the set of 11 buildings farther back (follow the road on the satellite images, it goes up and around past the new buildings) enclosed in a fence with deteriorating concrete paths and roads with light poles around the perimeter. The bungalows near the front gate are unused and falling apart with trees and bushes growing into them. I would advise against adventure seekers sneaking in for more pictures and video as it is now gated, guarded and still government property.
