if you want to add more subjects in brief

Probably many subjects could be added. I didn't try to be comprehensive. The best approach for many of them is probably to develop them in specific articles but to sketch them briefly in this one. If interested, go ahead. Thank you. Nick Levinson (talk) 01:25, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup tag

Actually, I'm split on calling for cleanup or recommending deletion of this article as a needless content fork.

It seems the purpose of this article should be to expand on the Feminist culture section of the Feminism article yet it fails to do that. The source article actually covers the topic in more depth and is more cleanly written. Also, in turn, every single topic in this article is covered by another article which goes into greater depth. (I added a bunch of much-needed "main article" tags to the various sections.) Which raises the question, why have this article at all? Why not just make sure the section in Feminism is more concise and clearly leads readers to the other articles that do cover subtopics in greater depth.

There's also the issue of undue weight. Between a third and half this article is dominated by feminist controversies over (you guessed it) porn and the sex industry, when there are already articles that cover this topic adequately. Most of this needs to go.

BTW, I'll also note that I just cleaned up a totally unbalanced and factually inaccurate summary of feminist disagreements about sex work. Articles like this one that are the product of excessive content forking are bait for POV forks, which I could envision something like that section turning into. This article was intended as an expansion subarticle of one portion of the Feminism article, with this article then leading to more specific subarticles. The Feminism article's old section on culture was trimmed just after this article was created with content from that article. Since then, the Feminism article's culture section has been re-expanded by about half. The solution is to expand this article, perhaps partly by moving content (again) from the present Feminism article's culture section, as this article has the room to explain and support many more subarticles within its scope. Trying to explain and link to all of them directly in the Feminism article would burden the latter. Navigation templates link but hardly explain. Expanding this one and this one's subarticles is an opportunity for research and writing that would expand the encyclopedia's reach.
I'm not clear on what has undue weight in this article. Perhaps it just looks that way because other topics are not well covered.

Suggestion for Additional Subject

This article could use a section to briefly describe the way feminism is reflected in social media. For example, Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture is a feminist media organization magazine that analyzes all media to challenge traditional women gender roles. It is one of many social media platforms that exist which are changing feminist culture. https://bitchmedia.org/about-us — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rehern21 (talkcontribs) 05:04, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Any such addition would need reliable sources explaining this. Such sources must also be at least somewhat independent of the magazines, per WP:NPOV, otherwise this promotes the magazines beyond due weight. Wikipedia isn't a platform for promotion. define feminism

I think it is really important to explain what feminism is at the start of the article to get a clearer understanding. It is much easier to read about feminism in the culture if you have a good background of feminism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lermiller (talkcontribs) 02:11, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have no strong opinion either way. This article already links to the main article, which has a paragraph devoted to that definition. Nick Levinson (talk) 20:11, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Really good progress

I think that overall, this article does a really good job at exploring different forms of culture and media in Feminism. There are also a lot of links to other articles and a lot of citation.

You might want to revise the sentence "Both authors were also pioneers in feminist criticism of science fiction in the 1960s and '70s, in essays collected in The Language of the Night (Le Guin, 1979) and How To Suppress Women's Writing (Russ, 1983)." in order to make it clearer. I think the wording is just a bit off, but it's not a major obstacle in understanding what is being said.

Besides that minor change, I think the sections could also be expanded on a bit more, especially the ones that deal with women's films and women's music.Meza s1 (talk) 04:49, 11 November 2016 (UTC) meza_s1[reply]

Additional information

Since culture may contain everything happened under a society, it's relatively difficult to introduce feminism in certain culture comprehensively. But I think the article still does well about introducing feminism from different aspects, such as women's different works and sex industry. However, from my perspective, the article lacks of some information about progress and improvement women have made. What factors awaken women to change their lives? What progress women's writing, firms, or music has contributed? In addition, the article should consider prostitution issue from some other women's perspectives, those who choose to work as sex worker consensually. They barely make their voice and protect their rights. The article will be more comprehensive if it contains these information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bibibiwyy (talkcontribs) 17:25, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea; go ahead, using reliable sources to support what you add. Consider whether some of the content you are thinking of adding would more appropriately belong in the Feminism article or in subarticles within the realm of feminism, such as regarding prostitution.
