A few little problems

  • Unsourced statements
  • Existing citations are poorly formatted
  • Tremendous spelling errors
  • Lack of grammar
  • The only table is broken
  • Poor organization
  • No more information than is present in the main article, Hurricane Katrina
  • No demonstrable need for this article

Before anyone wastes time cleaning this up I think he/she needs to explain why it needs to exist. Plasticup T/C 04:16, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

The article could certainly be used, given the impact in the state. However, given how the article is currently, I see no need for it. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 04:18, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
I agree that there are effects worthy of mention, but why can they not be contained in the main article? Plasticup T/C 04:20, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
As it is right now, there's no need. However, there is plenty of information on Katrina's impact in Florida - much, much more than is in the article. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 04:22, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

I am going to review this article, because I personally remember Katrina's effects in Florida.

  • As I have seen throughout this article, you say "Florida panhandle", which it really should be "Florida Panhandle", with a capital "P". Though when you simply refer to the "panhandle", I think it would be ok to not capitalize the "p", just like "Long Island" vs. "the island".
  • "The effects of Hurricane Katrina in Florida were in both in the southern portion of the state and in the panhandle." - In my opinion, this is kind of a boring opening sentence. Why not mention something like, it was the first hurricane landfall in the Miami metropolitan area since Hurricane Andrew? If you decide not to change it, I would like it if you wikilinked to South Florida and the Florida Panhandle here.
    • I agree it's somewhat boring, but it's informative. People who know about Hurricane Katrina might not know it also had substantial effects in two regions of Florida. That said, I linked it. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:39, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
  • Make sure you wikilink to Hurricane Katrina either on the infobox and/or in the lead as soon as possible after the opening sentence.
  • " Katrina made landfall near the border of Broward and Miami-Dade" - So why did you wait until the Background section to wikilink "landfall"?
  • Judging by the lead, it seems that no houses/mobile homes or businesses were damaged or destroyed.
  • "At around 2100 UTC on August 25, Katrina attained hurricane status, based on observations from the Hurricane Hunters." - Well, that is according to an advisory/discussion and not the TCR.
  • "Florida was affected by four hurricanes, including hurricanes Frances and Jeanne which hit the Gold Coast and caused billions in damage." - Meh, not really. Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne made landfall in Martin County, which is not considered the Gold Coast.
  • "While Katrina was intensifying into a major hurricane, the NHC issued a tropical storm warning and hurricane watch from the Alabama border to Destin along the panhandle. The warning was later extended to Indian Pass.[1] Officials issued a mandatory evacuation for portions of Walton, Gulf, Franklin, and Wakulla counties.[10]" - On what day(s) did all of this happen?
  • In the introduction paragraph to Impact, the damage toll should probably be mentioned again.
  • "The hurricane struck months after Hurricane Dennis struck the area." - You use the word "struck" twice in this sentence.
  • "Collectively, FEMA provided $1 billion in public assistance to Florida residents in association with the four hurricanes in 2005." - The four hurricanes? In the previous two sentences, you mention Rita and Wilma, which would make three, including Katrina. Is Dennis the other hurricane?
  • Daniel P. Brown's last name is misspelled on reference #1
  • On reference #2-4, you should add the middle initials of the forecasters, because (1. We know the middle initial and (2. it is all done that way one references #1, #11, #13, #20, and #21.
  • In the references, be sure to wikilink the National Hurricane Center, Federal Emergency Management Agency, New York Times, National Climatic Data Center, Hydrometeorological Prediction Center, United States Department of Agriculture, and Associated Press.
