Not the first
According to the opening, EK was the first [person, journalist?] to break the story. Later, though, it is pointed out that the story was broken on German radio. It looks like the opening should say some-thing like 'the first non-German.'

Breaking the news
I’ve changed the heading of the "Scoop" section to "Breaking the News". It wasn’t a scoop; Kennedy didn’t go out and find a story no-one else had, or win a race against other journalists also rushing to publish. He was given a story by the military on condition he waited to report, and he broke faith, both with the Army who let him in on it, and with his fellow reporters who did wait.
Also, I’ve made some changes, to tell the whole story (which is here, in full, if anyone is interested) as this read like a whitewash of Kennedy’s action. I've reduced the number of times it says the delay was political, for Stalin's benefit (It wasn't, the Germans were playing for time, and Eisenhower had given them some) and deleted the snarky comment that "Meanwhile, men were still fighting and dying", as if Kennedy's action was motivated by that. In any case, the fighting had pretty much stopped in the west; the ones doing the fighting and dying were the Soviets, who the Nazis still resisting, and the Czech Resistance, who the Nazis tried to crush in the time granted.
