Merge proposal

I propose merging Dannemora, New Zealand into this article. Dannemora is not an official suburb, it's a housing development with no recognition from either Auckland Council or the New Zealand Geographic Board. This article isn't much right now but East Tamaki Heights is recognised by both NZGB and Auckland Council as being official and merging would allow it to grow.

As for the information existing in the Dannemora article already: The geography section mentions how it's 'ill-defined' (which means it isn't official), and then it mentions Puke-i-Āki-Rangi, which is located in East Tamaki Heights. The early history section first references the early history of the larger area, with the title of the book not mentioning Dannemora, and then the history of the aforementioned hill, which once again is in East Tamaki Heights. Final sentence of this paragraph isn't relevant to Dannemora in any real way. The next paragraph mentions the sale of land in East and South Auckland and then talks about events near Clevedon, New Zealand, not even close to where Dannemora is located. The final paragraph of this section is about Howick, New Zealand, and then states that Dannemora was East Tamaki, well actually it still is, if you put the address of the school into Auckland Council's map service it comes up as East Tamaki Heights. In the development of the 'suburb' section the two references from Auckland Library refers to it as a subdivision of East Tamaki. Point View School is in Howick South according to the Education Review Office. In the reference about the strip mall at Chapel Village it is mentioned as a part of Flat Bush.

All of the information in this article be merged into their respective articles but I believe East Tamaki Heights is the appropriate redirect given most of this subdivision seems to be located in East Tamaki Heights. Traumnovelle (talk) 08:56, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Gadfium and Prosperosity: given you two contributed the most to either article. Traumnovelle (talk) 08:58, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I genuinely don't know what's best here. Dannemora is so poorly defined, and many areas which were called Dannemora in the past are now part of different subdivisions. East Tāmaki Heights is in the Gazetteer but I'd argue that East Tāmaki Heights has even less presence in print sources or a general understanding. It might be a better option to merge both in to the East Tāmaki article. Prosperosity (talk) 04:52, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
East Tamaki Heights could be merged into East Tamaki due to overlapping content, although it does qualify for WP:NPLACE.
No opposition to merging East Tamaki Heights into East Tamaki for content reasons (Massey West and Massey East for example). Traumnovelle (talk) 06:38, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This article even describes Dannemora as 'East Tāmaki (Dannemora)' (although she calls East Tāmaki 'the newest suburb', when the name has been in use for 100+ years). Prosperosity (talk) 04:54, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just a reflection on the abysmal standards of the online media in NZ, on top of the already low standards for real estate advertisements disguised as journalism. Traumnovelle (talk) 06:39, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The area called Dannemora hasn't been well-defined until about a year ago, and I haven't updated the article to reflect that because I'm waiting on the 2023 census results, which are due out for SA2 areas later this year. About a year ago, Statistics New Zealand introduced SA3 areas, which combine one or more SA2 areas, and the SA3 for Dannemora gives precise boundaries which are not quite as I thought they might be when I added 2018 demographics. Statistics New Zealand has renamed the SA2 areas previously containing "Dannemora" but not within the SA3 area. The post office recognises Dannemora as having similar boundaries to the SA3 area. I suggest dropping this merge proposal now, and reconsidering the merge next year when I have had a chance to update the article.-Gadfium (talk) 02:05, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
