It should be noted that at least one, probably several, American Families called Driver were originally Treiber, a name of German origin. This includes the family of Phyllis Ada Driver, better known as Phillis Diller. They came to Pennsyvania and anglicized their name with the first generation born there. It's also a common surname in Germany.
