Typically allowing a Diploma holder to obtain a BA/BS in one-third of the time.

"Typically allowing a Diploma holder to obtain a BA/BS in one-third of the time" is not a valid standalone sentence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.240.167.165 (talk) 22:26, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"The Diploma certifies that a student has achieved a minimum standard for 2nd Year courses in liberal arts" - This isn't accurate: 'liberal arts' is not that meaningful in the various education systems of the UK. A DipHE would not be in liberal arts, but rather in a specific subject, as degrees in the UK focus on one or two subjects for much of their duration. There are not 'breadth requirements' as you would find in an American liberal arts degree. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.9.181.14 (talk) 19:44, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Equivalence

Excuse my lazily not signing in.

I would take serious issue with the claim that two years at a UK college require more study than at an American school. The UK has a track record of:

-Labelling institutions as "university" which practically no other country would

-Making claims as to required study hours which are routinely double the real requirement to obtain a "normal" pass (2:1 / 2i / two-one)or distinction (1st class)

-Bear in mind too, that the UK further muddies the water by awarding "passing" grades which would simply fail in the US, and many other EU states too, such as 2:2 / 2ii / two-two which is worth practically nothing (GPA = 1.5 at best) , and "3rd class" which is genuinely an "F" by US standards if considering the typical state university.

Naturally, the UK colleges spend a lot of time putting incorrect information on their websites, but from vast experience I can stand by the above. It is really typical that "special pleading" is being used for UK qualifications in this way, and I'm happy to present solid examples if needed.
