Churchill dog

The dog in the Churchill Insurance adverts is currently played by someone doing an impression of Vic Reeves doing an impression of Deryck Guyler. Before that it was the real Vic Reeves doing an impression of Deryck Guyler. I believe that earlier still it was the real Deryck Guyler. Does anyone know if this is true? Washboard
