derivative term

"The derivative term is used to provide damping or shaping of the response". It is NOT the case

The derivative terms have a higher gain to fast changes in the difference signal, promoting a fast recovery of the system.

there is no damping effect of the derivative term, just the opposite. Milton (talk) 23:11, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Integral term

"The integral term permits the rejection of a step disturbance" is NOT true.

The integral term accumulates the error, so the output goes to the set point.

The step disturbance affects the derivative term. Milton (talk) 23:38, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a more general figure of a control loop?

In my opinion, it could be helpful for overall understanding to add a general illustration of a control loop in addition to the chemical plant (see this figure). If there are no objections from the community, I would add this illustration (including the naming of the variables) to the main article.
