Question about grammatical correctness in sentence

The first sentence in the "Establishment" section is, "Roosevelt proposed the establishment of a civilian conservation corps during the 1932 presidential campaign." (emphasis mine throughout entire paragraph.) Is that written correctly? I was thinking it should probably be, "Roosevelt proposed the establishment of a civilian conservation corp." OR "Roosevelt proposed the establishment of the Civilian Conservation Corps." I'm not sure, or I would change it.--ViolinGirl 18:42, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The sentence as is would be correct. "Corps" seems to be like "moose", in that the singular and plural use of the word is the same. I suppose this is due to its French origins.--carcrashprncess — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.142.130.19 (talk) 20:26, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The third form, "Roosevelt proposed the establishment of the Civilian Conservation Corps." Is the correct one. Ocylith 13:40, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
'Corps' is singular despite the 's'. It's also plural. You could improve the sentence by putting the prepositional phrase "during the 1932 Presidential campaign" at the beginning. --NoNonsenseHumJock (talk) 21:14, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Weasel words?

"The CCC was probably the most popular New Deal program". Says who? Where are the sources to prove this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.109.26.135 (talk) 18:46, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Demographics

A Quote for the the demographics of the CCC is needed. It would be intteresting to know the exact structure of the civilian and military leadership. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gablar (talkcontribs) 22:17, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question about dates: the article begins:

"Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a work relief program for young men from unemployed families, established on March 19, 1933"

but further down the date is March 31. I believe March 31 is correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Natkirk (talkcontribs) 15:52, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CCC indian protection

I don't know of a reference online, but native americans used to be hired for my local Minnesota CCCs for german prisoners during WWII where they would do native dances around teh camps at night to try adn prevent people from escaping. They only had 3 guards adn teh natives that protected because teh germans didn't know about the natives and thought they would scalp them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.17.197.105 (talk) 12:28, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr Links

I work for Oregon State University Archives and am trying to add links to certain Flickr exhibits, mostly from our Flickr Commons page. We hold the copyright on all of these images and are releasing them for public use in most cases, but bots keep rejecting my links. Does anyone know what I can do to keep these links, especially the one to our CCC set, online? --neverware (talk) 00:56, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please have a look at 'what wikipedia is not', there is already a huge linkfarm there, and I do not think that this should be the top link. The fact that you work for the OSUA would also give you a conflict of interest, and I therefore would suggest you to discuss more, and not revert arguably appropriate edits before finding further consensus. Thanks. --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:38, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think the link is an excellent addition. They're interesting images, there are more of them than we'd want to include in a Wikipedia article, and they're not surrounded by excessive advertising. I vote to keep them. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 04:06, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For what it is worth, I do here also believe that it can be a good addition, maybe in an appropriate subsection? Some other cleanup could be done, maybe, it is quite a list (but that is separate from this discussion). --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:21, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I made it so. I move the link into an images section under the external links, moved the movies into a movies section, and moved some others to the further reading. --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:27, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I agree the section needs other cleanup too. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 15:32, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question About Height Gain in Summary Paragraph

"During a six month period an enrollee gained an average of .277 inches height and 7.23 pounds."

I can understand the importance of the weight gain, seeing as the workers had, presumably, three square meals a day, but the height gained just seems like a few of the workers weren't done growing. I don't see there being any significance to the height statistic and propose its removal unless there's some studies showing that the average unemployed 18-25 year old in the same years lost height or typically didn't grow.

Economic terms

Its interesting how economists classify things: Was the CCC a work relief program set up just to give people something to do with themselves, or was it rather a massive conservation workforce that started the U.S. National Parks system and reforested millions of acres? The article's conceptualization on this point is unclear. -Stevertigo (w | t | e) 15:13, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No uniforms?

I see photographs online wherein CCC workers seem to be wearing some modest kind of uniform. There is also a promotional poster for the CCC that shows three men all wearing the same pants and belt. (Obviously in the course of physical labor it would be practical to loosen shirt collars and not wear a tie.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.243.21.153 (talk) 02:23, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

small edit

Hi there, I'm not a regular editor, and have no account, but I noticed a typo that I felt the need to change. In the beginning of the article when it said:

"Of their pay of $3 a month, $235 went to their parents."

I assumed it meant, "Of their pay of $300 a month, $235 went to their parents." and changed it.

I tried looking at the reference for the statistic, but couldn't since I am not a Time Magazine subscriber.

Legacy and memory, Civilian Conservation Corps Museums

  • The CCC Museums list should be sorted by state.
  • This list is missing several states.

Should permanent CCC displays or archives which are part of a larger institutions be part of this list?

Was past tense -- the CCC still exists

There is still a Civilian Conservation Corps in the United States, though its scope is greatly reduced from what it used to be. The lead-in should make note of the fact that the CCC still exists, and offer links to the national office. SoftwareThing (talk) 19:29, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
