The chinampas were a intensive crop method

"Floating garden"?

mmh.. there is a common misconception here... Chinampas were intended to be artifical islands, but sometimes currents erode the base and they became "floating garden"...

There were to types of chinampas.. Some were dedicated to agriculture, and others were dedicated for living, the material for the last inlcude heavier materials, like rock, and debris form other contruction . Tenochtitlan really was a giant chinampa and continuosly grew on extention by this system. Nanahuatzin 22:46, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, Nanahuatzin, although I think their description here as "floating gardens" is meant to be more evocative than literal- they 'appeared as if they were floating'. The article does go on to say they were artificial islands, but I agree that some rewrite is in order to make it more clear.--cjllw | TALK 07:32, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chinampa introduction

The article gives credit to the Aztecas for the invention of Chinampas when in actual fact this agricultural method ha been in use from pre 1000 bc my the Olmec culture which would suggest that this agricultural system was in use log before the foundation of the Aztec 0empire.
