The result of the move request was moved. Disambiguating suffixes are only necessary when two articles have similar titles; there is no such conflict here. Aervanath (talk) 12:49, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

China University of Technology (Taiwan)China University of Technology — Move back to the redirect because the disambiguation is not needed. The Chinese university only has a similar Chinese name to this Taiwanese university. The Chinese one has an article at China University of Technology. impactF= 22:10, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, let's look at your own paragraph. You just used the same English title for an article about the Chinese university--China University of Technology--as for the Taiwanese one--China University of Technology. We're dealing with identical names in English, whatever differences may exist in the original Chinese names of these institutions. Disambiguation is entirely in order.

I moved the article based on the experience of trying to find this school in a search. If you are looking for an article about the Taiwan university, in English, what do you type? Most people will type search terms like these, in any order: china university technology taiwan

When I did that before, the article came up low on page 2 or on page 3 of Google. That's batting pretty low for Wikipedia. Lots of irrelevancies appeared first. Even when I found the link I couldn't be sure I had the right place until I followed the link to the article.

The move I made corrects that. All the key words are in the title. No one is going to confuse the Taiwan school, even when viewing just a link to the article, with the school in China. No knowledge of Chinese characters is necessary.

(Incidental note: The school has two campuses, so using a city name as a clarifier was not an option.)

I recommend leaving the article alone for a while at its new location. See how it fares in searches. Run some search tests yourself. I'm betting the entry is easier to find, places more prominently, and is easier to distinguish at a glance from other schools and articles, than doing it as we did before. We get an accurate title that helps users and thus makes Wikpedia easier to use.

It seems that I wrote the link wrong, the Chinese university's page is at University of Science and Technology of China. It has a different name than this Taiwanese university. If people want to search the Chinese one, they would either type that or its redirect China Science and Technology University. Sure, some would type China University of Technology, but if you put a hat note on this article indicating this is the university in Taiwan and not the one in China. It would also make it easier for people to navigate, plus, it lets this article retains its original name (from website) and no disambiguation page will be needed.
In addition, the Google search of China University of Technology brought up the Taiwanese university's link before the Chinese one's link. So, again, disambiguation is not needed, a hat note will suffice. impactF= 03:26, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
