Tomatoes?

The lede text says "Chili sauce is a condiment prepared with chili peppers and red tomato as primary ingredients" but all the examples in the article don't contain tomatoes. This article seems thrown together, trying to posit that there is a significant difference between "chili sauce" and "hot sauce". I suggest that any unique content should be merged with hot sauce, and with chili sauce changed into a redirect to that article. - Takeaway (talk) 16:33, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not all "chili sauce" has chilies in it.

I have a bottle of store brand "chili sauce" that does not list chili peppers as an ingredient and looking up Heinz Chili Sauce, I see it also does not include chili peppers either. The Heinz-style chili sauce (and it's copycats) more like a ketchup but without the sugar and with more spices, among other differences. The intro needs to be updated to be clear that some bottles of "chili sauce" are just a more similar to ketchup rather a chili pepper sauce. The section on commercial varieties should also be updated to explain that what is called "Chili sauce" may not necessarily have chili peppers in it. Also the intro states that chili sauce is either hot or sweet or a combination of both but The Heinz style chili sauce is more vinegary & sour rather then sweet and completely mild. This should be fixed too. The problem with this article is that the term "Chili sauce" can be used either to refer to Chili pepper-based sauces, especially non-hot varieties or to a less sweet mild tomato based sauce (such as Heinz Chili sauce). If where going to include both kinds of chili sauces then we need to be clear that some "Chili sauces" don't use chili peppers as he main ingredient, if at all. --Notcharliechaplin (talk) 19:42, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The chili in Heinz chili sauce falls under the generic "spices" ingredient on the list. Which goes to show that it's really just spicy ketchup. oknazevad (talk) 15:27, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
