isbn numbers

Odd that two books related to the same subject both would be printed with incorrect ISBN topology as stated. See [1], [2].

The second set of numbers identifies the publisher:

Not really that odd...lots of books have a grouping of three digits, followed by one digit at the end of their ISBN numbers. Just looking at the selection of books that I happen to have laying around me at the moment (including a Batman graphic novel, a book about folk-rock, and a book about the British Empire), all of them have an ISBN that follows the pattern of one digit, five digits, three digits, and then one digit, with each grouping of numbers separated by hyphens. Now, I'm no expert on ISBN numbers but the Wiki article on the subject seems to indicate that this penultimate grouping of three digits refers to the title of the book, while the final digit is the check digit. As I say, I'm no expert at all...so I just make sure that I render the ISBNs in inline references exactly as they appear on the book cover. That seems to me to be the most logical thing to do. But an ISBN that follows the pattern of 1-90600-215-0 for example, is far from uncommon I would say. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 11:59, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
