@Wolfdog and Nardog: Sorry to bother you. Do you know how Boberg pronounces his surname? Is it /ˈboʊbɜːrɡ/, /ˈbɒbɜːrɡ/ or Swedish-style /ˈbuːbɜːrɡ/, /ˈbuːbɛərɡ/, /ˈbuːbɛri/ (dangerously close to blueberry :P), etc.? Also, should we include the corresponding Swedish pronunciation? I always read it as the first one you gave and I can't imagine it possibly being anything but the first two. I've never heard an English speaker pronounce Swedish ⟨berg⟩ as anything but /bɜːrɡ/, be it Thunberg, Strindberg or Bergman, and according to Forebears there are 1.2K+ people with the surname in the United States compared to 1.8K+ in Sweden, so it must have been anglicized. Re 2nd question: Does he have direct heritage or connection to Sweden? If not, I don't see why in the world you would want to do that. Nardog (talk) 14:08, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I guess we can't proceed without sources, then. BTW, my bet is on /ˈboʊbɜːrɡ/ too. The second syllable must be /-bɜːrɡ/ because I can't imagine an RP speaker saying /ˈbəʊbəɡ/ (~bow-bug /ˈboʊbərɡ/), though maybe I'm wrong.
