I hope my comments based on personal recollection are appropriate. I cannot provide references. I inserted these comments as part of getting a general feel for working with Wikipedia. During World War II, several departments of the Ministry of Pensions occupied a cluster of prefabricated one-story buildings, put up in 1940 on a site that had been part of Holt's farm. At that time, the "center" of Carleton was the intersection of the road between Blackpool and Fleetwood, and the road to Poulton-le-Fylde. The Castle Arms pub was on the north west corner, and a general store and one or two other shops were opposite. The Ribble bus company provided service to Blackpool and Fleetwood. Thornton had an excellent public library. Baines' [1] in Poulton-le-Fylde was the nearest high school.

- I hope you don't mind Michael, but the information really needs to be verifiable. As I think you gathered, the pub name was incorrect; without sources, it's hard for readers to be sure what is accurate. That's not a slight on your memory, it's be the same for anyone! I think most of this information is appropriate for the article, but perhaps in different sections. Ultimately, the article should be following this structure: Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about settlements, so, for example, the school information can be in a section on education, the bus services in a section on transport, rather than all in "history". Baines school and the Castle Gardens are still alive and kicking, so we can reflect that. Hopefully I'll have time this week to find dome sources and add some of the info back. We also need to tweak the tone slightly. We have to keep it neutral, not referring to the library as "excellent" for example.--BelovedFreak 01:07, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
- Many thanks. I certainly do not mind and I agree. I have had an interesting exchange about verifiability with horticulturist who produced List of rose cultivars named after people. I agree "excellent" is not NPOV. BUT !!! your pointing this out triggered a recollection that may be important, probably in articles about libraries, education during WWII. Somehow, the country managed to keep a very efficient interlibrary loan system going during the war. Consequently, I was able to borrow advanced textbooks that were important in my preparation for university entrance exam and getting a start on my scientific education. More anon. Michael P.
