Inconsistent

The terms "bitch", "female dog", and "dog" (to mean a female member of this species) are switched too frequently, I think. Better stick to one.

Canine penis article

I discovered yesterday that this article exists and have nominated it for deletion. It seems overly specialized and that any relevant content should be moved either to Dog anatomy or Canine reproduction. Thought? I would agree if Canine penis were not expanded, but if (as suggested at the top) the article were expanded by translating from German, having it as a separate article would be appropriate. This being an encyclopedia, I would not agree that the German version has too much detail. Unfortunately, I don't know enough German to be of any help. I merged Canine Penis because it seems that there will not be an expanded version anytime soon, and in its current state, it is more appropriate to be part of this article and not as a standalone. MarialeegRVT (talk) 03:10, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Female cycle

How is it possible that the length of the cycle is 2–4 weeks, but diestrus (which presumably is only one part of the cycle) in a non-pregnant female lasts 60–100 days, and anestrus lasts 4–5 months? Peter Chastain [¡habla!] 01:34, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am planning on adding a pregnancy physiology part to the article.

My edit is shown as below.

Physiological Change of Pregnancy. Pregnancy can be detected at Day 20~Day 35 of gestation by manual palpation. There is a secondary increase of progesterone at Day 25 until term. Relaxin and prolactin level also increase from Day 25 until term. Anemia is very common in pregnant bitches due to increased plasma volume. Increased level of growth hormone, which is led by the progesterone stimulating mammary growth, can increase insulin resistance in the bitch. There is a great energy requirement during pregnancy and lactation. It is recommended to feed bitch at least 150% of maintenance at last 3 weeks of gestation, and at least 200% of maintenance during early and peak lactation.
