• Strong Oppose. "Brants's" is the correct use of the apostrophe. "Brants'" indicates a possessive form of more than one "Brant". "Brants's" is the possessive form of the singular word "Brants". --Aranae (talk) 12:29, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

The animal only received a common name this decade. I guarantee that even people directly researching it have to look up what Musser and Carleton (2005) decided to call it if they have some reason to apply a common name. It's like other obscure muroids in that regard. I really think the point is what is grammatically correct (its current name). Correcting grammar wouldn't be OR. In this case the proposal is to force a name to be grammatically incorrect relative to Musser and Carleton (2005). --Aranae (talk) 11:35, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

• Comment. The argument of the proposer appears to be that the current construction is incorrect. However, assuming that the person was called "Brants", then the correct possessive could be either Brants' or Brants's, depending on usage. I can see no good argument against the current name, and so no reason to change. Richard New Forest (talk) 10:05, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Eponym

Its binomial name commemorates Anton Brants (1805–1862), Dutch zoologist, but I can't open this link to provide a reference. --Hanberke (talk) 20:59, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
